Smrekovit Spruce ointment is a natural product made from spruce resin, palm fat, and beeswax. The ointment is free of added preservatives, colorings, and fragrances.
Medicinal properties of spruce resin:
Even the father of medicine, Hippocrates, discovered the medicinal properties of spruce resin and described methods of its use in his works. The tradition of using spruce resin according to these methods successfully survived until the Middle Ages. Spruce resin, which is an exceptionally powerful natural preservative, is said to have healing effects even in its fossilized amber form. Women in ancient Rome supposedly wore amber necklaces as a remedy for swollen lymph nodes and sore throats. Native Americans also used spruce resin to heal abrasions and cuts.
The tradition has also been preserved in folk medicine of the modern era, where spruce resin was used to treat abrasions, arthritis, boils, burns, colds or respiratory inflammation, tuberculosis, coughs, diarrhea and other digestive disorders, headaches, sore throats, rheumatism, stones, tumors, and wounds. Today, it is also used to treat sciatica, bruises, fatigue, coughs and fungi, warts, sore throats, insect bites, stomach pain, back pain, ear infections, hangnails, sprained ankles, heel spurs, stomach acid, urinary tract infections, herpes, calluses, joint wear and tear, digestion, regeneration, bronchitis, contusions, swelling, muscle pain, hemorrhoids, sprains and injuries, sun allergies, acne, cramps, mastitis, diabetes, foot problems, gum inflammation, joint pain, and burns.
Farmers in Slovenia used spruce resin to treat mastitis in cows and other diseases in livestock and humans. In Gorenjska, the preparation was called "Smrdljivec". Slovenian herbalist Father Simon Ašič also wrote about the effects of spruce resin on muscles, physical resistance, and skin diseases, rashes, and wounds. Various scientific studies have also confirmed that spruce resin and spruce essential oil are extremely effective against microbes, bacteria, and fungi. They even found that spruce resin or spruce essential oil is more effective than antibiotics used to treat these infections in the case of Salmonella Enteritidis and some other bacteria.
External use
Apply the ointment to the desired area several times a day. You will achieve a much greater effect by using a spruce dressing, which you should apply at least twice a day. This will prevent the spruce ointment from soaking into clothes and bandages, ensuring a much longer duration of action.
Internal use
Swallow ½ teaspoon of ointment up to four times a day. Since Smrekovit spruce ointment does not taste good, we recommend placing the product in the refrigerator for a few minutes before consumption and using cold liquid to help with ingestion. If you want traces of the ointment to remain on the walls of the upper respiratory tract, spread it throughout the oral cavity so that it slowly washes down the throat and pharynx. To improve the taste, mix it with honey. In small amounts, it can also be applied to the nose and ear canal.
Specifics of use:
- apply the affected area several times a day and leave it (some of the ointment will be absorbed by clothing), or cover the applied areas with fabric and plastic film. This ensures the longevity of the application and a greater effect.
- for digestive problems (heartburn, constipation, inflammation of the gastric mucosa, stomach ulcer, intestinal problems), swallow ½ teaspoon of ointment 2-4 times a day with cold liquid.
- for upper respiratory infections (angina, sore throat, pharyngitis, cold), spread the spruce ointment with your tongue from the top of the palate and swallow it slowly so that it spreads throughout the oral cavity and throat; the ointment can also be placed in the nostril or ear canal.
- has a beneficial effect on hemorrhoids.
- promotes cleansing and healing of fresh, open, and purulent wounds, bedsores, and burns, and prevents the bandage from sticking to the wound. The bandage should be changed at least twice a day!
